Dear Readers,

True confession: I love Paris—and have for a (very) long time. In 6th grade, I started at a new school where I had to take French twice a week.
Everyone else in my class had taken French since kindergarten, and jumping into something so completely foreign—when everyone else seemed to know everything already—was, well, tough. We even had to put on a play, so I had to memorize lines from Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince). I didn’t even know the word for “hello,” let alone for the long string of words in my lines! Still, this baptism of fire ignited my lifelong love of all things French and made me a bona fide Francophile (true lover of all things French).
To spark in you la francofolie (crazy love for all things French), we’ll introduce you to Coco Chanel, an icon of French fashion, (see pages 3–5) and give you a glimpse of Paris Fashion Week (pages 10–11). Wandering through Paris on foot is one of my favorite things to do, so we give you a tour of the city’s oldest neighborhood and some of its must-see markets. The tour leaves from page 37.
Whether your summer vacation plans are as far away as Paris or closer to home, we’ve put together several pages of outfits for a variety of activities and locations (starting on page 18), and on page 62, packing expert Susan Foster shares tips and tricks to getting them all in your suitcase—neatly.
And what would an issue of Kiki be without some “Design Your Own . . .” pages? My pick for this one is “Design Your Own Pastry” on page 70. Not only can you design a delicious and artful creation, you’ll find out about popular French pastries and what makes them so délicieuses (delicious).
Even though we’ve been working on this issue for months and looked at the articles over and over again, I can’t wait to sit down with my limonade (kind of like Sprite, only tarter) and read the summer issue of Kiki the minute it arrives in the mail. (Yes, I also get the magazine in the mail!) May this issue of Kiki be your Le Petit Prince! Limonade, anyone?
